Overview

The 2027 BHS International Convention will be hosted in Minneapolis. Since the convention will be in our backyard, we are planning to create a project-based chorus experience with the goal of qualifying for international this fall and representing MN on the international stage next summer. Within our surrounding area, we understand and respect that the Journeymen Chorus is also positioned to compete, along with other choruses from the greater LOL district. While only one chorus can qualify for international by placing first at District Contest, according to the current rules, ALL choruses that meet the target score (currently projected to be 81) will be “automatically qualified” to compete at the following international.

We know we can’t do this alone. The goal is to create an inclusive, high-level chorus that allows capable singers from across the Twin Cities to participate in an international-level experience. The project would run on a defined timeline (Aug. 6th - Oct. 17th) and is intended to complement—not compete with—the excellent ensembles already serving our community.

Our current project plan would consist of weekly Thursday night rehearsals in Minneapolis, with rehearsals starting in August and ending the week of the fall convention in October (10-12 rehearsals total). The chorus would be inclusive of all voices, regardless of gender, with middle voicing such that the lead part would be accessible to a variety of singers.
